Don't you think that today's Portugal vs. Holland football match is the most happening and the most dramatic game so far in World Cup 2006? It was fun too watch, but also scary. I guess FIFA has a lot more work to do to emphasize their "Fair Play" motto. I didn't get to watch the first half, which was when the Portugal earned their goal that qualified them to quarter finals, but this is for sure: the second half of the game was just full of determination to win and hate to the other team.
4 red cards, 15 yellow cards(or is it more than that?), fights, pushing, injuries, riots even at the official bench...plus the searing heat, the referee for this game must have faced the most terrible headache that he pulled out so many cards. Even my stomach was doing flip flops during the whole second half. With Portugal down to 9 players and a few minutes later to 8 players, Holland without a doubt has more chances to attack while Portugal needless to say, must defend and defend (which I think they did a pretty good job at). Had Holland scored an equal goal and the match had to be continue for an extra time, I think there might have been bleeding noses and bruised eyes.
Despite all the dramas, I am glad Portugal won. Being a loyal Portugal fan since Euro , I am really hoping that they could make it to at least quarter finals...and they did! I don't care'lah' who played kotor and all, since both teams are flaming mad each other...all I hope is that they'll win in their next match against England, which is gonna be tough(I think eventho to me England is one boring team) since two star players received 2 yellow cards already. I might have to watch that game alone since I know banyak Malaysians must be rooting for England.
But, Go Portugal! And Italy and Brazil! And whoever else yang terror...hehe. |
