To me, he was an honorable man. He wanted me to become a doctor. He always asked me to come back to Malaysia. He was the one who gathered all the people from the mosque for my kenduri before I flew to the States. He bought me a wristwatch before I flew back to the States last year. We went to holiday together with the family 3 years ago. He was so strong back then, and he still was to his final days. Even though old, he still drove his own car. His eyesight was far better than mine. He was never really sickly. Always going from one place to another. He was part of the reason why I decided to come back for good to Malaysia instead of staying for another year and working there.

I bought him a shirt when I came back a month and a half ago. I never see him wear it yet. But he smiled and thanked me. My aunties said he was delighted and boasted about it. About how nice the shirt is. About what good taste I have. "I have a shirt from America", that was what he said.

The last time I met him was 2 weeks ago. And I have only met him twice or thrice since I came back. But he was gone suddenly. Not giving me a chance to spend more time with him. To spend my first Hari Raya in Malaysia since 4 years ago with him. Such sadness. The only nearest memory that I have of him is my watch, that he gave. Which I wore almost everyday.

He wanted to go to his home this weekend to pay for Ramadhan tahlil ceremony to the mosque. Now he is back home forever. Rest in peace. May God bless you.
